Masiba
A
brief background of Masiba’s family...
Masiba had married Masa and moved to Burma. Unfortunately during the Second
World War thousands of people had to flee Burma as the British (it was
a British colony) could not protect its subjects from the invading Japanese.
They had abandoned all their worldly possessions and flee by foot as there
was no other transport available. They walked to India. It was a long
and gruelling journey and quite often they had to abandon the old, the
sick, and often children on the way because they had no choice. Masa.
Masiba, Nirufaiba (aged 3) and Indufaiba (aged 1) walked to India.
In 1944 Masa came to Mombasa and worked at the timber shop. Then for two
years he went to Thompsons Falls to run a sawmill for Pappa’s friend
Prabhudatbhai. Masiba and the family joined Masa in Mombasa in 1948.
