The Final Years
(contin...)

In July 1983, a couple of weeks after our wedding (we were still on our honeymoon) Pappa had chest pains, and against his will, he had to be hospitalised. The rest of the family were still in U.K. or in Europe at that time. Only Ashwinkaka, Kaki, Ameet and Apu were in Mombasa. He recovered and came back home but finally when he was feeling ill again, he himself phoned Rameshbhai, who suggested that he should go to the hospital and that Rameshbhai would meet him there. Ashwinkaka took Pappa to hospital. Later Ashwinkaka related that he was saying Navkar Mantra continuously (though he was unconscious) until his immortal soul left his body. His Dharma Bhavna was of the highest level. He was a great man and mourned by one and all.

Even Anandghanji Maharaj and Yashovijayji Maharaj had the utmost respect for him, even though they were sometimes at the receiving end of his anger! Pappa always admitted to them that he always lost his temper when fasting. Pappa felt more sleepy on those days but he was very self-disciplined so he would not take more rest when he fasted, so that could have been a factor which contributed to his losing his temper. Ba, on the other hand, never got angry and never argued with Pappa. She only talked to Pappa after he had calmed down. Ba never raised her voice or told anyone off!

When Pappa passed away he had 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
