Introduction
All of you readers are probably wondering why I wanted to write Pappa's
story. It all started with my cousin Mira Kamdar writing a biography of
her paternal grandmother who is my Mum's Masi. Of course Mira is a professional
freelance writer and her words flow! Anyhow Mum suggested that someone should
write about Pappa's life. When we had that telephone conversation it was
actually 100 years since Pappa was born. Most of the information was given
by Daddy who was very keen on this idea, and all thanks go to him.
We have a lot to thank Pappa for in our lives - if it had not been for his
pioneering spirit, determination and hard work, where would we be? Pappa
was a man who was respected for his integrity, his honesty and straightforwardness
and had a tremendous standing in both business and social circles. His compassion
for all the extended Doshi family was unrivalled: helping family members
was a number one priority. He has taught us the right "sanskar" - there
is no English equivalent for this expression - which hopefully we will pass
on to our children. Pappa has left a void in all our lives.
